Karen
E. Morais, CPA, is a partner of the
firm and member of both the tax and agriculture departments.
Karen was raised on a dairy
and worked in production agriculture before pursuing a career in
accounting. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture
from California State University, Fresno and received her CPA
certification in 1984; the same year she joined Baker, Peterson &
Franklin.
Karen’s expertise includes income and estate tax planning from an agricultural perspective.
She can interpret your crop
cost accounting as well as passive
farm activities, preproductive
period expenses, payments-in-kind,
and crop insurance proceeds to
your advantage.

agriculture today, such as water, energy and low commodity prices, is
fundamental to our accounting practice.”
| Since
joining the firm, Karen has had the opportunity to work with a
variety of ag-related businesses, but particularly enjoys the
variety of challenges related to processing facilities, such as tomato
and almond processors,
as well as fruit packers, vegetable packers, and cotton
gins. |

Karen
is extremely active in the local community, especially with organizations
that support Ag education, such as the Ag One Foundation and the Ag
Boosters Committee for California State University, Fresno. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Ag One
Foundation, the Board of Trustees for the Fresno Art Museum and is past
president for the Bulldog Women’s Foundation
